I've got a bit of a soft spot for lacemaking.  As I am very much a newbie at such an interesting yet focused craft it is a bit of a  labour of love to produce anything, but I am trying to master a 'quick make' using just a simple torchon ground stitch.

I found the crochet cotton above for £1.99 in a charity shop and knew it would be great to use.  So along with a few colours I already had I set about my little production line.

Using such a simple stitch meant that I didn't have to constantly refer to instructions and I could just enjoy the process of crossing the bobbins back and fore.  (I have just done a google search of back and fore as I wasn't sure whether it was that or back and forth and apparently back and fore is a bit of a 'Wenglish' way of saying it i.e. how we do speak in the valley's in Wales like!  I hope you don't mind if I keep it in.)   Anyway, I digress...

Three bookmarks made so far and still so many colour combinations to try.  Any suggestions for combinations gratefully received.  I've also got royal blue, dark green and white!

Me Made May!

Photobucket

I've been umming and aahing over whether to join Me Made May.  I have got a bit of a thing about making dresses and yet spend most of my days in separates.  I am guessing however that that is exactly the point.  It is supposed to shake you up a bit and make you look at your wardrobe in a different light.  And why not be the most glamorous school breakfast supervisor in Wales!

Here goes...

'I, HoffiCoffi of hofficoffi.blogspot.co.uk, sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May '12. I endeavour to wear a handmade or refashioned piece of clothing or accessory each day for the duration of May 2012'

A bit of donation boutique couture!   I had a very good day in the charity shops recently, managing to bag this floral bedsheet in one and a small bag of yellow yarn in another shop.  As you can hopefully see from the photo above the yarn goes remarkably well with the yellow floral in the fabric design.  Astute buying?  Nah, luck!

Anyway, I haven't managed to knit anything with the yarn yet but I have managed to make a dress out of the sheet.  I am hoping that the 9 balls of yellow will be enough to make a small co-ordinating shrug.

I'm really pleased with this dress.  As bed sheets aren't particularly bothered about transparency I have had to line this fully with a white poly cotton - including the skirt.  It has given the dress quite an expensive feel to it which isn't bad seeing as it cost about £5 to make.  The zip I used was a second hand one given to me and I have put in a lapped zip at the back which I am quite pleased with.  I was lucky to have a co-ordinating cardigan which I got for 20 pence at a jumble sale so this really feels like a champagne lifestyle on a lemonade budget! Thank you Mr HoffiCoffi for taking the photo. x
